Other driver had insurance, and I'm dealing with them, but because they say my car is totalled as its older and not worth a lot, they offered me some money, but when I go to buy a similar car online, I see I'm short a few thousand. They are being a bit difficult and have my car at a lot ( I know mistake but they said they only were going to look at it, now its gone). I don't have a lot of pull but will complain as much as I possibly can - was on phone for nearly hour today. It took 12 days for this company to contact me back, that's only because I called them questioning about the progress. Now the wait didn't bother it is the fact that the refused me. I know that as an insurance company they have the right to refuse an insurance policy, but it was the EXCUSE they gave me that infuriated me. Now let explain the situation as clearly as I can. I am a new driver, I am still living with my dad so I was obligated to put him onto my insurance plan because we are living int he same building and both have access to my car, as a new driver I have 0 tickets, 0 cancellations of insurance (have had previous insurance for a motorcycle with the same company) and I must also put 0 experience. now my dad has over 30 years driving experience, but he had 1 ticket in the past 3 years. So this is what the insurance company said to me on the phone, We are refusing your policy because you are a new driver, and your secondary driver has had 1 ticket in the past 3 years. Me, and my father both think that this is just an excuse to not insure a new driver. I am insured now and have been for the past several months driving everyday to and from work, my insurance is getting a bit costly now and am thinking of trying the other company again. I would like to know, Can the insurance company refuse me for those reasons? And would you recommend trying that company again after a few months have past or try to find cheaper insurance elsewhere?

My mother in law was driving my wifes car on our insurance pollicy. She was hit on the passenger side of the car and puched in to the roundabout by the cab on a 14 wheller. The car is a 1996 renault clio and there is some heavy denting and scratches on the passenger door and front wing. Nothing that has effected the driveability of the car to my knowledge. since the car was pushed up over the kerb and on to the roundabout it could have knocked the tracking a little. I dont know how much it will be to repair but the car is only worth about 600 and the insurance policy on this car has an excess of 350 cause it was the named driver who was driving and not my wife. There also is no protected no claims bonus. If i was to put this claim through the insurance how would this effect the pocket and the no blaims bonus.
